Deputy told firefighter husband she wanted to separate on night of murder-suicide, sheriff’s officials say

The night she was fatally shot by her firefighter husband in an apparent murder-suicide , Sheriff’s Deputy Cecilia Hoschet told her husband she wanted to separate from him, authorities said Tuesday. Hoschet’s Los Angeles County firefighter/paramedic husband, James Taylor, allegedly shot her in the head with a semi-automatic pistol at their La Cañada Flintridge house, took their 6-year-old son to a relative’s home and then shot and killed himself at a Pacoima fire facility where he worked, according to sheriff’s officials. “The night of the murder, she did indicate to him that she wanted a separation,” Lt. David Coleman of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station said Tuesday. “There were marital issues involved and that may have provided the breaking point for him.” Coleman said he did not know why Hoschet, who worked at the county jail’s Inmate Reception Center, sought a separation and the investigation is still ongoing. Hoschet’s body was found in the 5000 block of Crown Avenue on Sept. 6 after deputies responded to call about a woman screaming, authorities said. Taylor allegedly fled the couple’s home after fatally shooting his wife. His body and a pistol, which was registered to him, were later found at a county fire facility in Pacoima, authorities said. The couple’s son, who was at the house but not believed to be in the room when Hoschet was shot, remains in the care of relatives, Coleman said. This updated info provided by the Los Angeles Country Sheriff’s Department shows Deputy Cecilia Hoschet, 32. Officials said Hoschet was shot and killed by her husband, Los Angeles County firefighter James M. Taylor, right, at their home on Sunday, Sept. 6, in La Cañada Flintridge. Taylor then took his own life at a fire department building in Pacoima.
